Being a keen tennis player myself, and previously a member of Alsager Lawn Tennis Club, being asked to design a replacement Clubhouse was an honour and maybe one of my favourite jobs to date.
The existing clubhouse had been altered and changed over the years due to vandalism, and they had been left with two metal portal sheds with shutters, as you could imagine a very unsightly and not welcoming building for a tennis club. The design was to make a more traditional building, to achieve a welcoming / friendly feel with plenty of light and use of windows / doors for viewing the courts during match days.
The project did throw a curve balls at us due to the building being build on infill ground so we had to do an emergency pile foundation with block and beam floors to overcome the issue and keep the project moving and in budget due to the funding from Sports England.
